Municipality

Municipality of Veliko Trgovišće is positioned in the southwest part of Krapina – zagorje county near the border with Zagreb County and  the capital Zagreb from which it is distanced only 30 kilometres. It covers the surface of 46,65 km² and counts 1 660 households with the population of 5 207 inhabitants according to the population census from the year 2001. Average density of the populated area is 111,89 inhabitants/km².

Through the east of the municipality goes the highway Zagreb-Macelj (E-59) in the composition of international traffic Phyrn corridor. Through the valley of the creek Horvatska goes the state road Gubaševo – Kumrovec (D-205), which is very significant for the inner – municipality traffic system. Very important for the geotrafical position of the municipality is the railway that goes from Zagreb to Krapina and Varaždin.

Veliko Trgovišće has one elementary school with 2 branch schools in Dubrovčan and Strmec and one kindergarten under the construction.
