Preschool

In combination with regular programmes, institutions for preschool education offer the possibility of individual programs that enrich the regular 10,5 hour programme and those programmes are officially certified by the Ministry of education and sports. Such programmes enable the development of pluralistic tendencies in the field of preschool education what is a basis for upgrading personal identity of each individual in kindergarten.

Elementary school

Elementary education is based on providing knowledge and developing competencies necessary for obtaining different roles in adult age. Generalisation of simple facts is not enough for development of intellectual, social, moral, creational and physical competencies in a human life, so elementary education is oriented towards applying most effective educational methods adapted according to the student’s age and suitable to student’s pre-knowledge and life experience.

Region has 85 elementary schools and 2 special schools with programmes for children with difficulties in development. 

Secondary school

Secondary education provides everyone, after successfully finished elementary education, with needed knowledge to work or to continue the education. It includes education of adults and children with difficulties in development for whom the programs are specially adopted according to their needs.
 
 Secondary education programs are:
· Programmes for obtaining secondary qualification
· Programmes for obtaining secondary professional qualification
· Programs for obtaining secondary lower professional education
Programs for training and specialization

Secondary schools, depending on school program, are:

1. General - program secondary school – 4 year program for obtaining secondary qualification
2. Secondary vocational school – 1- 5 year education for obtaining secondary professional or lower professional education – technical school, industry school, craft school
3. Secondary art school – 4 year education program for obtaining secondary qualification – music schools, dance schools
